What is the technology behind Uzima Water Filters?
All Uzima Water Filters utilize Hollow Fiber Membrane (HFM) technology, chosen for its ease of use, low cost, and durability. Each HFM water filter contains a bundle of hollow fibers designed to allow water molecules to pass through the filter while anything larger than 0.1 microns (bacteria, cysts, protozoa, etc.) is filtered out.
All of our filters utilize absolute 0.1 micron Hollow Fiber Membrane filtration, which means no harmful bacteria, protozoa, or cysts can pass through the membrane. This includes E. coli, Salmonella typhi (Typhoid), Vibrio cholerae (Cholera), and Giardia.
Our filters are not designed to eliminate total dissolved solids (TDS) like salt, or to remove viral, chemical, or heavy metal contaminates.
How long will each filter last?
All of our filters are designed to last for up to 10 years with proper use and maintenance. There are many factors which effect filter life, but regardless of environment each filter should last 5+ years, and all of our products come with a one year warranty against manufacturer defects.
How do you clean the filters?
Cleaning the UZ-1 water filter is simple using the included filter cleaner. Just back flush the filter with clean water a few times and the filter will be ready to filter more water. In the standard bucket configuration, the filter can be back flushed while still attached to the top bucket. The filter attached to the UZ-BP must be removed from the feed tube by unscrewing it from the tube connector prior to back flushing.
Cleaning the UZ-XL can be done without removing any of the components, simply by opening and closing a few valves on the system.
